Where the river begins:
Every page of this book has a painting by Thomas Locker. Two brothers seek the help of their grandfather to find the beginning of a river. They travel through beautifully depicted landscapes, and then journey home. The prose is short and simple, but the paintings take the center stage. Do check out the others by the same author too.

The Raft:
Jim LaMarsche makes the simpler things in our world look magical through his illustrations. A boy reluctantly visits his grandma in her lake house, and manages to have the best time. Though this book was written in this time and age, it could easily have been written a hundred years ago, no gadgets, no screens, only a connection with the world and its beings.
